Qualitative Methods: Conducting Interviews and Focus Groups
What qualifies for a good qualitative interview or focus group discussion? What are the dynamics that scholars should consider when selecting an appropriate qualitative method and style? Is there an art of asking questions and hearing data? How do we keep our interviewees engaged?
This workshop is aimed at scholars to understand the underlying qualitative research philosophy and assumptions, the various qualitative data gathering methods and styles, and learn the art of asking questions and hearing data, which is often a challenge for novice qualitative researchers.
With the help of the trainer, scholars will also learn to design an effective interview guide and essential interview preparation and facilitation skills. Scholars will also be taught some practical strategies they could apply to keep their interviewees engaged while maintaining ethics in a qualitative interview.
